We
hope that everyone has been having a good off/indoor season. The
board has been busy getting things in line for the 2008 year. We've
already had several board meetings and met with some members from the GAASA
board!!! There are several pieces of information that I wanted to pass
along to you all.
First, Rick has been working
very hard to get a new referee clinic lined up. It will be March 29th
and 30th, sponsored by the Coventry Soccer Club. *Make sure that you tell people that they
need to pre-register with Rick at cjrmhanna@aol.com *****Note: it has been
decided that if you still need "make-up" hours you should NOT
come to the clinic. That might create too much confusion. Rick is
working on doing one LAST, not to be done again, don't count on it again, make
up clinic for those individuals and we will e-mail information once that gets
hammered out. You can also attend one of the
Secondly, after hearing feed
back from many of our members in regards to the training sessions and structure
of them, Rick with assistance from the board has come up with the following
proposed amendment to the constitution:
Here is how Article VI
Section A currently reads:
Registered referees are
required to complete a minimum of 5 hours of in-service training each year in
order to re-test and re-register for the next year. The ASRA will provide a minimum of 10
regularly scheduled meetings at which at least one hour of in-service training
will be given. Any other business of the
association of a general nature may be conducted at any training meeting.
The proposed amendment
would read:
Registered referees are
required to complete a minimum of 5 hours of in-service training each year in
order to re-test and re-register for the next year. The
ASRA will provide a minimum of 7 regularly scheduled meetings. These meetings will contain at least one hour
of in-service training with a total yearly minimum of 10 in-service hours
provided by the ASRA. Therefore, some
meetings will offer more than one service hour. Any other business of the association of a
general nature may be conducted at any training meeting.
This will allow us to offer some times when you can get more than one hour of
training while attending the meetings. It also reduces the number of
meetings that we have which will help reduce costs. It will
also allow us to do one hour geared more towards newer referees (0-3years of
service) and a separate hour geared more towards our more seasoned
referees. Lastly, the wording ensures that we will not get to the point
of having several big 5 hour meetings like our friends up North do. The people who wrote the constitution, and our current board,
feel that there is a lot of information that comes up during the season that we
want to pass along.
We will have hard copies to share at the first meeting and then a date will be
set to vote on the proposed amendment.
Lastly, the meeting dates for
the spring have been set. We made them so that they would follow the
proposed amendment, however, if it doesn't pass we
will still have time in the fall to satisfy our current constitutional
requirements. The meetings will be at the PAC and will start at 6:30
prompt. The sign in sheets will be collected 15 minutes into
the training session. ANYONE coming in after that time
will NOT receive credit for attending that hour. On the times that
there are 2 hours of training offered the schedule will be from 6:30-7:30 1st
hour training (geared more towards new referees) 7:30-8ish business meeting and
8-9 2nd hour of training. You should plan on being at the business
meeting one way or another, however you can come to either or both of the hour
trainings. The dates are: 3/17, 4/6 (2 training hours offered), 5/4
and 6/2 (2 training hours offered).
